What is an Educational Diagnostician?

Once a student is referred for special education, a full and individual evaluation is given by a diagnostician to determine if the child is eligible for special education services.Educational Diagnosticians identify special needs of children through effective communication, consultation, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. They can also design interventions which address areas of academic need, consult with teachers and administrators in the development and implementation of a student's plan for special needs.Diagnosticians also provide information to educators and parents concerning the ethical and legal issues of assessment contained in the federal and state laws.

A Diagnostician's Prayer

Children are like snowflakes—
No two are quite the same.
Each one is a work of art,
Given the right frame.

They don't fit into boxes,
Measured by a test.
No standard score or numbered code
Captures them the best.

I'll have them read and write some words,
And make designs with blocks.
Give them math to calculate,
And read reports fromDocs.

But when I add the numbers up,
And prepare my review,
Help me to remember, God—
They each look just like You!!
