SISD student athletes named to All City and All State teams PDF Print E-mail

Student athletes from Americas, El Dorado, Montwood and Socorro high schools received more than 40 All-City and All-State honors.  El Dorado High School senior Brissa Ochoa was named Outstanding Libero for the All City Volleyball Team.  This is the first time Ochoa has been selected for the All City team.  Ochoa has been on the varsity team for four years.  Her record stands at 42 Aces, 22 Kills, 16 Assist and 952 Digs.  She received District 1-5A Defensive Player, District 1-5A All Academic and SISD All Academic. Ochoa and Americas senior Krystal Martinez were selected for the 2008-09 Texas All Academic Volleyball team. To be selected for the Academic All State, athletes must be graduating seniors and have an overall GPA of 94.  Ochoa is coached by Frank Ayala and Martinez, who has been playing for seven years, is coached by Alicia Gomez.

“This honor means a lot to me because our program here at El Dorado is a young program,” said Ochoa who started playing volleyball at Jane A. Hambric School.  “I was surprised to hear about the All State honor and one my coaches called me on a Saturday morning about the All City recognition.  My parents really have been inspiring and I want to make my mom proud.”

Making the All City second team was Kayla Wiliams, senior outside hitter from Montwood High School. Receiving honorable mentions were from Americas Franquee Acosta who has been playing volleyball for four years, and from Socorro Bertha Cadillo.

Seven cross country athletes were named to the All City first and second teams.  On the Girls First team is Americas senior Elizabeth Beltran who was District 1-5A champion for the second year.  Making the Boys First team Socorro senior Josue Nunez.  Making the Girls Second team were Socorro senior Kim Martinez, and El Dorado freshman Bonnie Perez.   Socorro senior Juan Nunez was selected for the Boys Second team.  Receiving honorable mentions were Montwood junior Marilyn Medina, and sophomore Angel De la Cruz.

Montwood senior Domingo Torres was named as offensive MVP for the All City Football Team.  Torres also received an honorable mention for the 2008 Class 5A All State High School Football Team.  Joining him on the All City offensive first team are El Dorado senior and quarterback Anthony Lopez, Socorro senior and wide receiver Ruben Morales, Montwood offensive line and senior Jake Swenson.  Making the offensive second team was Montwood senior Louie Tinoco. Receiving offensive honorable mentions were Socorro senior Roger Favela, El Dorado junior Nick Kilgore, Americas senior Miguel Picos, El Dorado sophomore M.J. McFarland, El Dorado senior Talon Morris, Montwood junior Chris Sazo, El Dorado junior Josh Holguin, Socorro seniors Jorge Balderrama and David Salas.

Making the All City Defense team were Montwood seniors Josh Coward, Dalton Jacquez, Victor Reta and Mike Lopez.  Selected for the Defense second team was El Dorado senior Ryan Lopez.  Receiving honorable mentions were Americas senior Sal Caballero, Montwood junior Daniel Galvez and Socorro senior George Stoltz.

Five SISD student athletes were named to the 2008-09 Academic All-State Football Teams.  Americas player Rocky Hardee and Socorro senior Jorge Balderrama were named to the second team.  Receiving honorable mentions were Americas student Rene Villalua, El Dorado student Bryan Castillo and Socorro student Ernie Lujan.
