SISD seniors take part in National Signing Day PDF Print E-mail

Jack Swenson signs his letter of intentA trio of SISD seniors is set to play at the next level.  Montwood football players Jake Swenson and Chris Muncie signed letters of intent in front of family and friends inside the school’s commons on February 4, which was National Signing Day. Socorro senior and soccer standout Esther Villa also committed to play Division I school Colorado State University-Pueblo.

Swenson who was the Rams offensive lineman will head to Las Cruces to play for New Mexico State University, a Division I school.  He was named to the El Paso All City offensive team in 2008.

“There are new coaches at NMSU and I think they can turn around that program. I also liked their Business program,” said Swenson who has been playing football since he was eight years old.  “It’s pretty good to be going to Las Cruces.  If I get homesick, it’s about hour drive back.”

His teammate, Chris Muncie, who was a wide-receiver, will head to the University of Arkansas where he plans to suit up for the top ranked Razorbacks’ track teams and try out for the football team.  As a junior, Muncie qualified for the state championship in the 200 and 400 meters last year.  Arkansas is a member of the Southeast Conference and a Division I school.

“I knew Arkansas has a strong history in its football and track programs. I had a really good stay when I went to talk to the coaches. I knew immediately when I visited the campus that this is where I wanted to be,” said Muncie, who plans on studying kinesiology. “It’s going to be tough being in two sports but I know that I can compete at that level.”

Arkansas is a member of the Southeast Conference (SEC) and NMSU is a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
