Montwood High School Junior Chris Muncie heads to the UIL State Championships in Austin, Tx. Muncie qualified for two events-the 400-meter dash and the 200 dash. He placed 1st in the 400 meter dash and 2nd in the 200 meter dash at the Regional Track Meet on Saturday April 26 held in Lubbock, Texas this past weekend. Overall, the Montwood Boys Varsity team coached by Joe Vasquez finished 2nd in the regional track meet.
“Chris is an outstanding individual and has a good work ethic. He makes coaching enjoyable,” said Montwood Head Track Coach Joe Vasquez. “When he ran the fastest time in the state, I knew he had the ability to go to the next level. He has really high expectations of himself. I told at the beginning we have three goals. The first one was to be District Champs, our second goal was to be regional winner and now we have one more to go.” Muncie received four gold medals and placed 1st in the High Jump, and 400 Meter Run, and 2nd place in the 200 Meter Run. Muncie advances to the 2008 UIL Track State Track Meet which will be held on Friday May 9 and Saturday May 10 at the Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas. He will be competing in the 400 meter dash on Friday at 7:00pm and in the 200 meter dash on Friday at 7:30pm. Muncie and Coach Vasquez will leave on Friday at 11:45 am and will be returning on Sunday at 7:50 am. This caps off season in which he broke the 400 meter dash record at the West Texas Relays on March 15, 2008. Muncie ranks No. 1 in El Paso in the 400, and 200 meter dash, and as a member of the Rams' 1,600-meter relay team. He is also tied for first in the high jump and was a member of the Junior Olympics the past summer. According to Dyestat.com, Muncie's 400 time ranks 13th nationally and his 200 mark is No. 40. |
