My name is Doris Rittmann. I have a Bachelors Degree in Education, and a Masters Degree in Counseling. I have had 13 years teaching experience in High School and Middle School , and about 15 years Counseling at Elementary School, at an Alternative school, and at Middle School. At Sanchez, I counsel students in grades 6, 7, and 8, whose last names begin with N - Z. I need to always be ready for emergency emotional situations that do come up especially in Middle School. Because of the natural changes in this age group, it is important for a counselor to always be ready to listen to the student's problems or ideas and be ready to assist. The counselor also is involved in orchestrating and presenting programs, such as Bullying and the WHO program, which guides middle school students in their decision making. The middle school student needs to plan ahead as they are trying more independent activities, such as going to parties, going out on dates, and being careful as they are more and more on their own.
As a middle school counselor, I am often called upon to be a mediator between students, between parents and students, and between teachers and students. There are a lot of ups and downs in Middle School--never a dull moment. That's why I like it here at Sanchez Middle School, where we have such a great faculty and wonderful students.
