8th grade students will be enrolled in Career Connections for one semester. Upon successfully passing Career Connections 8th graders will earn a ½ credit semester towards and elective credit at a Socorro School District High School .
Students will execute a variety of life living skills such as completing a career assessment, http://www.careercruising.com/, MECA “black boxes” program, preparing resumes, learning correct formats on preparing letters such as cover letters, thank-you letters etc., introduction to PowerPoint Presentations, budgeting, Job-Shadowing, graduation plans, various presenters from the community will present to students on the 16 career clusters. Students will also participate on entrepreneurship skills and sell items to the faculty throughout the semester. Students will be working on college awareness by using "Let's Talk About College" curriculum throughout the semester, concluding with a fieldtrip to an area universities such as:
