Dear SunRidge Community:
Eventhough just over four weeks have passed, it feels like we’ve been here allalong. Administration, teachers, and staff have been working hard all summer to prepare for the new school year.
Studentsand teachers are adjusting to the new traditional schedule. The days seem tofly past us, and we’re seeing amazing things in every classroom. We have made the transition to the STAAR as well, and we continue to challenge students to learn more and work harder thanthey ever have.
Wehave welcomed several new Generals to Sun Ridge, including two new assistantprincipals. In addition to Monica Castro, who will work with 7thgrade students, we have Derrick Brown joining us to take care of the 8thgrade class, and Mary Mendoza helping us with the 6th graders. Bothof the new additions are seasoned administrators who bring a wealth ofexperience and knowledge to our administrative team.
SunRidge had the best attendance rate of all the middle schools in the district, and we want to make our record an annual tradition. It is impossible tooverrate the importance of “showing up.” For every 1 percent we raise theattendance rate as a district, we gain approximately $2 million. With financesbeing increasingly limited, every dollar counts. While the value of educationitself is a strong motivation, we will also be implementing other incentives toencourage students to “Make It Count” by attending school every day.
Ourfirst student-led conference night will be on September 17th from 5to 7 p.m. Students will show their parents what they have been learning, andexplain their goals for the year. In addition, we have many, many sports andathletic events throughout the nine weeks. Please see the calendar posted onthis website for other events throughout the first nine weeks.
Asalways, we encourage parents to come by the school. In addition, please call usat 937-6601 if you would like an individual appointment to speak with one ofus. We all work together to ensure that all of our students are successful.
Sincerely,
Kim Baxter,Ed. D.
