Capt. Walter E. Clarke Dress Code

2011-2012 School Year


Dress Code for Students:

Students are expected to follow the district and campus dress code policy. In addition, a uniform is required at  Capt. Walter E. Clarke Middle School.  The faculty, staff and administration work to provide students with a quality education in a safe an orderly environment.  A dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline and avoid safety hazards to students and others.
 
*Administration reserves the right to change and adapt the student dress code as new fads and trends arise.
 

PE Uniform:

 

PE uniform will be required for the 2012- 2013 school year. It will consist of navy blue bottoms and a gray top. A logo is not required however, vendors will sell the PE uniform with and without the logo.

 

The length of shorts needs to be longer than the length of the middle finger when the arms are fully extended to the student's sides. Additionally, no spandex shorts or leggings, no bloomers, and no cheerleading shorts will be allowed. PE shirt will be a gray T-shirt with sleeves. The t-shirt must follow the campus dress code policy. No other t-shirts or shirts will be allowed.

 

In the winter, navy sweat pants and a gray sweatshirt may be worn, but no hoodies as it is a safety issue during PE.


Free Dress Day Guidelines:

 Sleeveless tops and dresses must fit the two-inch rule (the straps must be as wide as two inches)

  • Strapless tops, dresses or halter tops are not acceptable.
  • All necklines may be not be lower than the width of your hand placed at the base of your neck.
  •  Jeans on free dress day must fit at the waistline and stay at the waistline without a belt while sitting or standing (no extra big, baggy or skinny jeans allowed).
  • Torn or pants with holes are not acceptable.
  • Pajama pants and house slippers are not acceptable.
  • Undergarments may not be exposed at anytime.

Pants:

  • Pants, skirts, skorts, shorts or capri pants are to be worn at the waistline and must stay above the waistline without a belt while sitting or standing. Belts must be worn when pants are large at the waist and may be any color. Belts with inappropriate designs on the buckle, spikes, etc. are not allowed.
  •  Colors: blue or khaki (No Black).
  •  Cotton or cotton blend material (twill), but no corduroy.
  •  No baggy or excessively tight pants.
  • Skirts, skorts and shorts must be at least as long as the fingertips with hand at the side or not shorter than 2 inches above the knee. They may not be rolled up at the waist.
  • Length of the pants must not exceed the heel of the shoe and must be hemmed and neat in appearance.
  • Torn or pants with holes are not acceptable.
  •  Undergarments may not be exposed at anytime.

Shirts:

  • Polo or t-shirts must be white, gray or blue with the Clarke logo (bottom button must be buttoned when wearing polos).
  • One white polo shirt without the school logo is now allowed.
  •  Must be long enough to be tucked into pants and must be tucked in at all times when they are excessively large. Clarke spirit shirts (from Clarke athletics, clubs, organizations) may be worn any day of the week as long as Clarke Middle School is clearly denoted on the shirt (no Americas HS or other schools may be worn).
  • During cold weather only, shirts under school uniform shirts are allowed and may be any color as long as there is no inappropriate design/logo on them.
  •  PE uniform is not to be worn under school uniform (hygiene issue).
  • Sweatshirts/sweat jackets may be worn during cold weather, but they must remain unzipped or removed in the building. No hoodies are allowed in the building at any time.
  •  Undergarments may not be exposed at any time.

 
Other Items:
  •  Nothing may be worn to school, be in students possession or worn to school activities or functions, which represents (a) membership in a group, gang affiliation, tagging crew except for school related clubs (no bandanas, like clothing etc.), (b) satanic depictions, (c) items with profane or sexually inappropriate content or intent. In addition, no apparel, jewelry, accessories, or manner of grooming is permitted which indicates a membership in a gang or group that is not school related (ex. the color red for gang affiliation).
  •  Tongue and body piercings are not allowed, boys may wear one stud in each ear, and girls may wear earrings no larger or longer than a quarter in each ear. Facial piercings are limited to small, non-distracting locations and styles and may not be excessive. Any piercing deemed inappropriate or distracting by campus administration will be required to be removed during school hours and while attending school events. No gages are allowed in students' ears.
  •  Jewelry or clothing with spikes, metal studs, Playboy Bunny emblem, belts with initials, medium to heavy type chains or long necklaces (to include Prayer beads) are not allowed due to safety concerns.
  • Any make-up that may be considered gang related or excessive in application is not allowed.
  • Students' hair, including facial hair, must be neat, clean, and well-groomed. Hair styles, which cause undue attention or a health and/or safety hazard, are not permissible (for example, distracting hair color, large spikes, Mohawk's, designs shaved in hair, etc. or shaved eyebrows).
  •  Hats, caps and scarves may be worn outside, but not in the building. No bandannas are allowed.
  •  Sunglasses may be worn outdoors. In the building they must be removed with the exception of prescription glasses or correction for medical problems.
  •  Winter coats must be unzipped once the student is inside the building.
  • Red backpacks, scarves, belts, shoes are not allowed due to gang affiliation.
  •  Backpacks, binders and notebooks may not have any type of writing or drawings on it other than student's name, subject and grade level.
  •  Backpacks should not contain any item that is not allowed on campus (i.e. alcohol, knives, etc.) See Student Code of Conduct for a more detailed listing. Possession of any such articles may result in level 3 or level 4 offenses, which will require major administrative action.
  •  Rolling backpacks are not allowed due to congestion in hallways.
  •  Permanent markers and white out are prohibited on campus, please read the district Student Code of Conduct for more information.
  •  Lanyards holding the students' school identification card must be carried at all times. Tardy and No Homework cards must be carried in the student's backpack, wallet or lanyard pouch at all times.
