
Special ProgramsTitle I is the largest federal assistance program for elementary and secondary schools. The program was re-authorized by the Improving Americas School's Act in 1994 and provides a new framework and flexibility for Title I. Approximately 8 billion dollars are funneled to school districts throughout the nation. Socorro ISD receives 3 million+ in Title I funds. School districts use their Title I funds to provide supplemental services designed to improve the educational performance of low achieving students in high poverty schools. The goal of Title I is to enable schools to provide services which empower students with the knowledge and skills needed to meet challenging state performance standards.
