State Accountability

In 1993, the Texas Legislature enacted statutes that mandated the creation of a Texas public school accountability system to rate school districts and evaluate campuses. Beginning in 2003, the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), was administered. The ratings under the new accountability system were first issued in the fall of 2004. This accountability system presently includes grades 3-11 testing Reading/English Language Arts (grades 3-11), Mathematics (grades 3-11), Writing (grades 4 and 7), Science (grades 5, 10, and 11 {8grade starting in 2008}), and Social Studies (grades 8, 10 and 11). TAKS is offered in Spanish in grades 3-6 in Reading, Mathematics, Writing, and Science.

Federal Accountability

No Child Left Behind (NCLB) – Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 was signed by the President on January 8, 2002. This act states that all public school districts, campuses, and the state are evaluated annually for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). This accountability system includes grades 3-8 and 10 testing in Reading/English Language Arts and Mathematics.

Ratings

  • Under the 2009 State Accountability System, 11 Socorro ISD schools received an Exemplary rating.  In addition, 21 Socorro ISD schools received a Recognized rating and 6 campuses received an Academically Acceptable rating. No schools in Socorro ISD received an Academically Unacceptable rating.

The district, as well as all campuses, has used and will continue to use data to plan instruction for students.  Socorro ISD’s results are indicative of the progress that has been made in instruction for all students.  This progress can be attributed to the partnership between schools, parents and the community.  SISD continues to work hard to prepare every student not only for academic success, but also to become productive members of our society.
