SISD Volunteer ProgramSocorro ISD Volunteer Program

Thank you for your interest in one of the most rewarding jobs in education…“Volunteering”.

To volunteer at SISD, first fill out the Volunteer Registration form, available for downloading at the bottom of this page or you can obtain one at any of our schools.

Due to the large number of applicants, we will not notify you of your application status. To get your status, call your school office and contact the School Volunteer Coordinator or the SISD Volunteer Program. The process will take less than 5 business days.

Mission

We challenge and encourage each student to achieve and demonstrate academic excellence, technical skills, and responsible citizenship.

Vision

A team of dedicated professionals, committed, focused, making a positive difference, improving instruction, caring people, emphasizing fiscal accountability and responsibility. Leaving a legacy of professionalism, selfless service, and values to those who follow.

Core Values

Parenting: Families gain assistance in child-rearing issues. Schools gain better understanding.

Communicating: Effective two-way communication between schools and families to address school programs, events and student progress.

Volunteering: Families become involved as volunteers, advocates and audiences in and outside the school setting to support student and school programs.

Decision-Making: Family members are actively included in school decision, governance and through meaningful participation.

Collaborating with the Community: Families, students and the schools benefit from resources coordination with businesses, agencies and community groups. Families, students and the schools provide services to the community.

SISD Volunteer Program

SISD Volunteers are an essential component in the efforts to educate and nurture students. Volunteers work alongside staff to enhance and enrich the educational opportunities provided to students

Since 1999 more than 4,600 parents, business partners and community members have given more than 1,000,000 hours of service to the SISD.

Volunteering

Public schools belong to the public, and the education of students requires a coalition of the total community. Every segment of society benefits from well-educated students who become productive and successful citizens. There is a cost to society for any student who does not succeed in school.

Parents provide many hours of volunteer services, but community and business involvement is also very important. An increase in both parents working, single parent households and other stresses make community involvement and support even more important than in previous years.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone who cares about education and the children of the Socorro Independent School District can apply to volunteer. SISD volunteers include parents, retirees, businesses, member of the militia, civic groups, college students and other concerned citizens.

What can volunteers do?

SISD volunteers make contributions to every aspect of the education process. Many volunteers work directly with teachers and assist in the classroom. Volunteers also work with office staff, in the cafeteria, or in the library. They may tutor students, or become mentors and work individually with students. Others make valuable contributions by serving on planning and development committees.

Thank you very much for your interest in the SISD volunteer program and our students. We hope your experience is as rewarding to you as it is for our students.
