The job of educating today’s students is the responsibility not only of those who work for the schools, but those in the community of our schools, and in the extended community. The Socorro Independent School District’s Partners in Education program promotes the meaningful involvement between the schools and the community.

By community, we mean the individuals, the businesses and the organizations which are a part of our society.  Whether they reside outside the boundaries of the district, or from within, they have expertise, time, services, equipment, staff or funding which could benefit the students in Socorro ISD.

In turn, partnerships in Socorro ISD enhance the community.  The term “partners” indicates a reciprocal arrangement whereby, as the community assists the schools, the schools in turn assist the community.  And, ultimately, if the schools are producing a better product at graduation time, the community benefits from well-educated, well-rounded citizens.

There are many benefits to a successful community-school partnership program.  Chief among them is the improvement of student performance.  The positive involvement from those outside the school organization influences our students.

The program also fosters a better understanding of the public school system within our community.  Our school programs are strengthened and enhanced by the expertise, the involvement and the interactions between the schools, the businesses, the organizations and the individuals in the community.
