The Socorro Independent School District’s Fine Arts Department is offering group Piano/Keyboard classes this year. With partners Brook Mays Music Company and Midi For Kids, the classes will combine traditional music theory with creativity and improvisation. Students will learn how to play, compose, create, build instrumental skills, play by ear, read notation and connect musical concepts to other subjects such as math and language.

The after-school lessons will be held at El Dorado High School for grades 7-12 and adults with instructor Sara Long. Classes for students in kindergarten through sixth grade will be held at John Drugan Elementary with instructor Laura Aguirre. The class cost is $15 per week (one lesson each week). Payment may be done online by credit card or electronic withdrawal. Registration is open at www.midiforkids.com for those interested in on-line registration. Class size is limited to seven students. Additional classes may be added based on interest.
