Dear Cavalier Parent and Student:

Welcome to Spec. Rafael Hernando III Middle School where students are our priority and we strive to nurture the whole child. Overseeing one of the largest middle schools in the district is indeed a challenge but our faculty and staff work together to support student learning and to stay true to our belief and commitment that SUCCESS is the only option! In addition, our faculty and staff reflect these commitments through their daily words, actions and by fostering a sense of family to one another as well as toward parents and students. Following a TEKS based curriculum, we are committed to providing a variety of teaching approaches to help each child grow in his/her own individual way.

Parents are the most important teachers in a child’s life. We believe that the best learning environment is one in which parents, children and faculty work collaboratively. We ask for your assistance and support in providing the best educational experiences possible. Research shows that parental involvement is a main factor contributing to student success.

Every student at Hernando receives an agenda which is designed to assist your child in organizing his/her daily, weekly, and long-term assignments. Cavalier parents are our partners in the important job of educating the children of this community and this planner will facilitate the provision of academic support at home. Parents are asked to read their child’s agenda nightly to keep informed of upcoming assignments as well as a means for communicating with your child’s teacher.
