Dr. Jose Espinoza has 16 years of experience ranging from teacher to counselor, assistant principal, principal, and district administrator. Throughout his educational career, he has built strong relationships by communicating and collaborating with key stakeholders in the various school district communities he has served. In his most recent role as School Improvement Officer in Houston ISD, he supervised and counseled principals to ensure all students excelled academically and campuses met district goals. Dr. Espinoza has a proven track record of success in assisting principals to establish and achieve bold and measurable goals, to create high-quality instructional teams, to execute comprehensive strategic plans that meet the needs of all students, to plan, develop, and implement research-based instructional programs focused on student academic growth, and to work efficiently and effectively with their school communities.
During his first year as an urban middle school principal in Houston ISD, Dr. Espinoza led his campus to it’s first ever TEA Recognized rating utilizing the TAKS test administration. Under Dr. Espinoza’s leadership, his students and staff soared to great heights and ultimately earned a TEA Exemplary rating. Although his campus served predominantly minority, economically disadvantaged, at-risk students, Burbank Middle School outperformed more affluent campuses in the district as well as the state. Dr. Espinoza was named the 2009 North Region Houston ISD Secondary Principal of the year and the 2010 League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Educator of the Year. He also had the honor of earning the highest ASPIRE Award (performance-based bonus) in Houston ISD in 2010, second only to the district superintendent, outperforming a large pool of highly effective principals and educational leaders.
Dr. Espinoza earned a doctorate of educational leadership from Sam Houston State University and a master’s in counseling and guidance as well as a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Texas – Pan American. |
