Emergency Preparedness

SISD has taken a proactive approach regarding security and emergency preparedness at our schools. We have a District Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) in place, and each campus also has their own EOP, unique to their school's needs.

State law also mandates such plans, to include security audits. SISD conducts random audits at the schools to ensure our students and staff have a safe and secure educational environment. Each school also conduct drills to practice their EOP with their students so that they know how to react in a crisis situation, whether it be a gas leak or an actual threat against the school.

SISD Police Services has taken several proactive measures to support school safety:

  • We have cooperative agreements with our sister agencies within our boundaries who are available to provide us support and resources when needed
  • SISD Police Officers have received various types of training to respond to crisis situations.
  • Our officers are assigned to a home campus and are already on-site to be available for the students and staff, and also service adjoining campus locations.

In Case of a Critical Incident

Should an incident occur at a campus, we realize that parents and family members will be concerned for their child's safety. We also realize that the key to addressing this issue is providing timely information and updates.

  • Media / Press – First and foremost, we will use the media to provide our community updates on any incidents of concern at our schools. We urge you to listen to the radio, tune in to your local television stations, and you will be provided with information that will provide you with what is occurring and what is being done to ensure that safety of the students.

    • Updates – Will be provided as they become available.
    • Student Pick-Up – Should it be deemed necessary, parents will be provided information on where and when students can be picked up.
    • Situation Cleared – As soon as an incident has been resolved, we will immediately use the media outlets to inform you of this.

  • Switchboard (937.0000) – The switchboard is typically the first place that is called. It is not unusual for the switchboard to be inundated with phone calls and be busy. Should the lines be available, the switchboard operator will have information prepared to give out.

With the cooperation of parents and family using the media as an information source, we can work together to ensuring a safe school environment for our students and staff.
