The selection of the 2011-12 Socorro ISD Elite 8 Teachers of the Year was announced during a special reception held to honor the District’s 42 campus nominees and recognize their outstanding service to students and the community. The SISD Teacher of the Year program honors excellence in classroom education and provides a forum for the District to showcase the many outstanding educators whose efforts and examples inspire their students, their colleagues and the communities they serve.
The Elite 8 were selected from the 42 campus Teachers of the Year by selection committees who volunteered a day and a half to interview each nominee. The 12 individuals that served on the committees represent a cross-section of the community and brought diverse perspectives to the selection process, including District and campus administrators, partners in education, community representatives and students.
The Elite 8 will continue in the selection process for the top two SISD Teachers of the Year to represent the District in the Region 19 competition. The SISD winners will be announced at the annual Teacher of the Year Gala on Friday, May 4, 2010 at the El Paso Convention Center. Additional information regarding the event will be forthcoming.
