The five finalists, seniors from each SISD high school with outstanding attendance, were at the final celebration of the Make It Count campaign at the Viva Suzuki dealership. Each finalist chose a key to try on the car. Daniel was the second student to turn his key.
“I’m still in shock. I didn’t expect this at all,” Rubio said. “This was a great opportunity and now I have a way to get to school.”
Rubio had five months of perfect attendance at Mission Early College High School this year. After graduation, he will attend the University of Texas at El Paso. Rubio and his mother were both thankful for the campaign and the prize that came along with it.
“I’m very happy. This will help him get to school and have a better future,” said Irma Rubio, Daniel’s mother. “Thank you to the school district and to Viva Suzuki.”
SISD and Viva Suzuki officials were thrilled about the success of the Make it Count campaign.
“It was exciting. It was fun to see how much excitement it brought from kindergarten all the way to high school,” said Eloy Juarez, general sales manager with Viva Suzuki.
