Church says schools will stop busing students to program

Public schools have told Abundant Living Faith Center that they would no longer bus children to the church for a religious program in the weeks before Christmas, Elena Delman, a spokeswoman for the church, said Monday. But an official with the Ysleta Independent School District—apparently the biggest participant—said no decision had been made. “We will go ahead and review it,” said spokeswoman Patricia Ayala. “We have not made a decision at this time.” Meanwhile, Abundant Living is looking for another way to get Christmas gifts to children, Delman said. On Dec. 1, four area public school districts bused children to the church during the school day for a religious play and to select two toys. Ysleta packed almost 3,000 kids on to 65 buses and spent $6,000 on fuel to get them there. – Marty Schladen
