The Latino Family Literacy Project
Every year we have about 350 parents that participate in The Latino Family Literacy Project. SISD offers classes for parents to improve their own literacy skills and share the love of reading with their children.
Parents who participate attend regular classes during the school year. Parents of middle and high school students also gain college readiness and career preparation skills.
A recognition ceremony for all parents who participate is held in May at the District Service Center. Parents are given books to share with their families and are encouraged to continue practicing the reading strategies they learned to help their children.
