What is Academic Decathlon
Academic Decathlon® is a ten-event scholastic competition for teams of high school students. Students are tested in ten categories: Art, Economics, Essay, Interview, Mathematics, Language and Literature, Music, Science, Social Studies, and Speech. Each high school enters a team of nine students: 3 "A" or Honor students, 3 "B" or Scholastic students, and 3 "C" or Varsity students. The curricular theme for the 2017-2018 Academic Decathlon season is Africa.
Language and Literature: The language and literature curriculum will include critical reading, one novel, and six shorter works. The featured novel is Things Fall Apart.
Art: The art curriculum will focus on the artwork of Africa.
Music: The music curriculum will focus on the music of Africa.
Science: The science curriculum will focus on Infectious Diseases.
Economics: The economics curriculum will cover fundamentals of economics, including general topics in macro- and microeconomics and international trade and global economic development.
Mathematics: The mathematics curriculum will cover topics in the fields of general mathematics, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and differential calculus.
