Thank you for taking the time to learn about our innovative WIN Academy. We are excited about this opportunity to provide our children with unprecedented services and support to ensure they excel in the classroom and ultimately graduate from high school ready for college, careers, and life.
Working together and “Achieving Success as a Team” is exactly what we do best at Socorro ISD evidenced by our students’ academic performance. Specifically, when STAAR rolled out three years ago, SISD was behind the state in nine out of the 17 performance indicators for students in grades three through eight. Based on the 2013-2014 state assessments, SISD students soared to new heights and outscored their peers in the region and state in ALL of these 17 indicators. Socorro ISD was the only school district to achieve this great milestone in the El Paso County. Additionally, SISD’s graduation rate improved to 89.8 percent with the Class of 2013, which topped the state graduation rate of 88 percent and region rate of 83.6 percent.
While there is a lot to be proud of in SISD, much work remains to support our students’ efforts to satisfy state standards. There are countless reasons why a student may not advance through school on grade level and fail to meet the requirements necessary to be ready for college and beyond.
The reality is that the one-size-fits-all traditional public education system does not meet the needs of all our students. Regardless of the challenges a student may face, we are committed to doing everything we possibly can to support our students in the same manner that we would if they were our very own children.
Therefore, I am honored to have the support of our Board of Trustees, administration, and school community to launch the WIN Academy. Working together, we will ensure that WIN students have the extra support, time, resources, and personalized learning opportunities needed to reach their full learning potential.
Together, we will beat the odds and WIN!
