• My name is Nicolas Alvarez.  I am the  Head Coach for the Spartan Baseball Season.  I graduated in 1997 from Socorro High School where we won three District and Bi-District titles in Football and Baseball.  I was drafted by the New York Yankees but decided to play at the college level at New Mexico State.  After three seasons at New Mexico State I transferred to the University of Arkansas.  I played under one of the winningest college coaches in history Gary Ward.  Even though the game has evolved into a game of speed and power, I shadow my old coach in believing that fundamentals and strong pitching always win ball games.  I am excited to lead these young Spartans and thank you all Sparta fans for all of the support.

"Life is like Baseball.  A great hitter is only successful 3 out of every 10 times.  So that means that 7 times you fail. Life like baseball is set up for you to fail.  But it's not about how you fail or why you fail.  But how you are able to bounce back from that failure to get those 3 hits to be a great player."
