1. Is use of the work personal?
  - If yes, stop: personal use is not covered by educational fair use.
  - If no, proceed to number 2.
2. Is this use for instructional purposes only?
  - If yes, proceed to number 3.
  - If no: proceed to number 4.
3. Do you have the work's original resource available if questioned?
  - If yes, you are safe to use the work.
  - If no, it is highly recommended to obtain all original resources when using outside work.
4. Is a student using the work?
  - If yes, proceed to number 5.
  - If no, go back to number 1.
5. Is the student using it as inspiration and not as the subject?
  - If yes, go back to number 3.
  - If no, proceed to number 6.
6. Is the student recreating the work found online using a technique in class?
  - If yes, proceed to number 7.
  - If no, proceed to number 9.
7. Have you been granted written permission by the original creator?
  - If yes, proceed to number 8.
  - If no, stop: this is illegal usage.
8. Is the work being used in a contest of any form?
  - If yes, double check and have paperwork citing full written permission from original creator ready.
  - If no, you are safe to use the work.
9. Is the student using the work as a portion within their own original artwork?
  - If yes, technically this is recreating the original work, go back to number 6.
  - If no, proceed to number 10.
10. Is the student simply using it for a presentation?
  - If yes, go back to number 3.
  - If no, unfortunately, your use of outside work is not a common one proceed with caution and good judgement.
