Police motorcycles have been used in traffic law enforcement since 1908. Within the Socorro ISD Police Department, our Motorcycle Unit occupies a distinctive place. Police motorbikes serve a variety of purposes, including patrol work, escorting, public relations, and parades.

Motorcycles are excellent tools for traffic law enforcement in any congested area due to their excellent maneuverability and high acceleration reaction capabilities. Police motor units have the benefit of being able to go places a regular patrol car cannot. A motor unit can react to incidents much faster than a traditional squad car because of its ability to maneuver through dense traffic, and it is also cost-effective to use. Due to these benefits, the Motor Officer is dispatched to High Priority Calls, such as those involving weapons, fights, or officers needing assistance.

Police motorcycles are excellent public relations vehicles. The Socorro ISD Motor Unit is frequently invited to schools and special events such as parades, community events, and other details.

The Motor Officer responds to dispatched patrol calls for service and is also the Texas Department of Public Safety Crash System Administrator for the department.
