Team SISD congratulates the Class of 2020
The Socorro Independent School District Class of 2020 experienced a unique and challenging time as their senior year ended amid the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. Nonetheless, the SISD 2020 graduates have achieved an outstanding milestone that will guide their path to more success and achievements in college, careers, and life.
“It is an honor to recognize and celebrate the SISD graduating class of 2020,” said SISD Superintendent Jose Espinoza, Ed.D. “As the proud superintendent of Socorro ISD, and on behalf of our awesome Board of Trustees and all Team SISD, I want to say CONGRATULATIONS graduates! We couldn’t be prouder of you and are glad you seized your opportunity in Team SISD!”
More than 3,600 SISD seniors are celebrating their graduation this spring and Team SISD celebrates their hard work and commitment to earn their high school diploma. While the district and community have had to celebrate them in unique and creative ways this season, nothing can take away their accomplishment and the knowledge they have gained throughout their educational journey in SISD schools.
Many classes, athletics, extra-curricular events, programs and events were cut short due to the unprecedented situation and school closure; however, the 2020 seniors were extremely successful. The Class of 2020 graduates benefited from the endless opportunities in SISD, earning more than $59.8 million in scholarships, grants, dual credit savings, and military awards.*
More than 1,600 graduates participated in fine arts and 892 were high school athletes. Many of the graduates earned valuable skills and training in the district’s highly recognized Career and Technical education program, with 970 of them earning technical certifications during their high school term. The SISD graduates earned some 28,800 college credit hours saving $10.5 million in future college costs. In addition, 175 graduates earned associate’s degrees in the district’s early college high school programs.
*Scholarships, grants, dual credit, military awards number is from the 2019-2020 Post-Secondary Education Funding (PSEF) Report. The 2019-2020 PSEF Report may not be a true reflection of the actual earned post-secondary funding for 2019-2020 due to COVID-19. The 2019-2020 PSEF Report shall not be compared to previous or future PSEF Reports. Due to COVID-19, campuses are continuing to update their student data.

Message from Superintendent Jose Espinoza, Ed.D. - May 30, 2020
It breaks our hearts that students, especially our seniors, missed great school memories and fun, but we recognize everyone’s prompt, heroic actions rightfully prioritized the safety and health of our stakeholders.
We have never wavered from our goal of formally recognizing and celebrating our graduates.
In line with guidelines issued by the Texas Education Agency and in the best interest of the safety of our school community, we have made the decision to host all Class of 2020 graduations in our Socorro ISD Student Activities Complex.
We are blessed to have a beautiful outdoor facility that will accommodate our graduates following social distancing guidelines.
While there remains many details for us to work out, we are excited about the possibility of holding in-person ceremonies for our graduates. We will provide additional information as we finalize specific plans, and have them reviewed and approved by local health authorities.
As with all COVID-19 plans, it is important to note that details may be subject to change pending the state of our local community health as we approach the ceremony dates.
One thing, however, that will NOT change is our resolve to FORMALLY honor our graduates!
Until then, as the proud superintendent of Socorro ISD, and on behalf of our Board of Trustees and all Team SISD, I want to say CONGRATULATIONS graduates! We couldn’t be prouder of you and are glad you seized your opportunity in Team SISD!
I can’t wait to see you all at the SAC in July!
