The Socorro Independent School District conducted its 2022 Teacher of the Year Gala May 14 at the El Paso Convention Center. All campus Teachers of the Year were honored for their outstanding work in leading students to seize their opportunities. The Elite 8 finalists also were given a special recognition for their success in the classroom. The celebratory event culminated with the announcement of the top two district winners – the 2022 Elementary and Secondary SISD Teachers of the Year.
The 2022 SISD Elementary Teacher of the Year is Irasema Torres from Vista Del Sol Elementary. Torres is a fourth-grade teacher who has been teaching for 15 years. She said she aims to help all students overcome obstacles and reach their full potential. The 2022 SISD Secondary Teacher of the Year is Vanessa M. Payan from Hurshel Antwine Middle School. She is a theater arts teacher who has been in education for 13 years. She is an energetic teacher who strives to ensure that her students stay positive and motivated.
