Gifted & Talented

  • The ultimate goal of the Sun Ridge Middle academic programs is to develop within a student the desire for excellence and self-directed learning, thinking, research and communication. G/T students develop innovative products and sophisticated performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are targeted to an audience outside the classroom.

    A gifted/talented student is a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to other of the same age, experience, or environment and who:

    • Exhibits high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area;
    • Possesses an unusual capacity for leadership; or
    • Excels in a specific academic field.

    NOMINATION

    Student's nominations are accepted in the fall and in the spring semester, once per school year. Students may be nominated for the gifted and talented program from any grade level by teachers, counselors, parents, or other interested persons.

    1. Torrance: measures creative thinking
    2. CogAT: cognitive abstract abilities (nonverbal)
    3. IOWA: standardized achievement tests in English, Reading and Mathematics
