Welcome to PE

  • Our Physical Education class teaches students to develop healthy living habits that will last a lifetime. Students participate in a wide variety of activities, sports and challenges that will increase their physical, social, and mental abilities, teamwork and cooperation skills. We hope to provide a safe, fun and motivating class that will encourage all students to want to participate, have fun and try their best.

      PE Expectations

      • Our program focuses on three major goals:

        1. Movement Skills and Movement Knowledge
        2. Confidence of Self-Image
        3. Physical, academic, social, and emotional development

        P.E. Required Items:

        • Plain gray t-shirt (no muscle or cut-off shirts) 
        • Plain black shorts (shorts must be appropriate length)  
        • Own water source - (water fountains will only be used as filling stations

        P.E. Uniform Requirements:

        • If warm- ups are preferred, they must be plain gray or plain black.
        • Leggings/tights are only allowed if appropriate P.E. shorts are worn over. Leggings will not be allowed to be worn alone.
        • Label all clothes with the student's name.
        • Students may not borrow clothes, towels, or shoes from another student hygienic reasons.
        • Tennis shoes and socks must be worn at all times.
        • Flip-flops, sandals, Heely's, high-heeled shoes, and boots are not allowed.

        Students will earn a daily grade for participation and suiting out in the appropriate Ensor P.E. uniform (regular plain gray t-shirt –– and black shorts or warm-ups). The student will be given one week to get appropriate P.E. attire. If a P.E. uniform cannot be obtained by the first suiting out day, it is the responsibility of the student to notify his/her P.E. teacher.


        Attendance is recorded every day at the beginning of class. Any tardies will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Ongoing issues with tardies will be handled accordingly. Notes to be excused from participating or suiting out must be presented to the School Nurse in writing and signed by the parent or guardian. This must be done before school. The Nurse must clear the parent note in order for student to be excused. Students will suit-out, observe, and must remain with the class during the P.E. period. Any excuse for more than a day will require a United States doctor verification. Any unexcused absences, as per school policy, will result in a zero. If a student has an excused absence, he/she will be given two days to make-up missed assignments.

        Normal physical activity is advocated during menstruation by medical authorities. Therefore, girls are not excused from participation or suiting out at this time.

        Locker Room Expectations:

        Cell phones are to be put away at all times in the locker rooms. If they are out for ANY reason, they will be confiscated and turned into the front office. A cell phone being used during suit-out or suit-in time is a severe violation of privacy. There is to be no misconduct in the locker room. Unnecessary loudness, profanity, running, pushing, throwing gear, horseplay, or any action which can harm another student, will not be tolerated. Students will keep the locker rooms and restroom areas clean at all times. Gum, candy, food and beverages besides water are not allowed. No aerosol sprays (ex. Axe) or glass containers (ex. perfume/cologne) are allowed in the locker rooms. Coach will issue out lockers; you may bring your own lock. (Do not share lockers, and do not give out your lock combination).

        Any violation of the locker room rules will result in immediate action at the coaches’ discretion. In severe cases, a Socorro I.S.D. Police Officer/Security will conduct an investigation of the infraction.
        Procedures and Routines:

        1. The students will come into the gym through the side gym doors and will be required to sit at their assigned area for attendance.  
        2. The students will have 5 minutes to suit-out and use bathroom facilities. (No suiting out in bathroom stalls) 
        3. The students will walk the gym perimeter until coaches blow their whistle to begin instruction.
        4. 5 minutes will be given to the students so they may change back into their school uniform after instructional time.
        5. The students will remain in the locker room until dismissed by the bell or coach.


        During class activity, secure all jewelry (bracelets, rings, earrings, etc.) in lockers for safety reasons.

        The P.E. department will not be responsible for any lost or stolen jewelry or electronic devices (phones, airpods, smart watches). Electronic devices will not be allowed during the activity period unless noted by a teacher. If a student is found to have one of these items during the activity period, it will be picked up and turned in to the office.


        The grading percentages will be 60% Daily Grade (this is a combination of suiting out/participation), 30% Quizzes and Projects, 10% Benchmark/ Tests. Every coach has their own grading criteria of daily grades, quizzes, and tests.

        COVID PROTOCOLS:  Students will have the option to wear a mask, or any Personal Protective Equipment for their safety while in P.E.  Our P.E. team will have all current safety measures provided by the district to ensure the safest environment for all students.
