    Overview

The Socorro Independent School District is working hard toward becoming the best district in Texas. We are proud of the giant steps we are taking toward improving student achievement. Nevertheless, our work is not done and we need your help. Improving student attendance is a key component of SISD's strategic plan and remains a top priority for the 2018-19 school year. It is our goal to work with students, families, and the community to ensure regular school attendance and improve academic achievement. As part of the SISD "Make it Count" attendance campaign, we have worked to create this website, as an online resource for everyone invested in the education of our students. Check back often to keep up with our progress.

Parents - No matter how old your children are, families play an important role in making sure their students are in school on time and every day.

Community members - We know you want the very best education for the children of El Paso, and we do too. After all, a well-educated community is good for business too. By understanding that everyday counts, we can work together to give our children the very best education and future.

You can help to get our students to school on time, every day by: posting one of our attendance posters in your storefront window so community parents and children will see it; and by encouraging regular school attendance among your employees, those who are parents and those who are students.

For questions or additional information about the SISD "Make it Count" Attendance Campaign communications, publications, or sponsorship opportunities, please contact the SISD Office of Public Relations at 937-0288.

Thank you for your support and commitment to SISD's students.

5 Quick Facts on Making it Count

    1. Missing school one day per week is equal to missing one full year of instruction for every five years a student is in school.
    2. Students are now taking the new STAAR assessment, which is more difficult and rigorous than the TAKS test.  In order to be prepared students must attend school every day.
    3. Every day a student is absent from class costs SISD some $27 in revenue from the state. If we raise the attendance rate by just one percent districtwide, it would result in $2 million per year in increased state revenue. That's money that goes directly into your child's education.
    4. If SISD had 100% attendance each year, the school district would receive $10 million in additional state funding annually.
    5. A diploma has an economic value! High school graduates earn 38 percent more than those without a diploma, and college graduates earn 140 percent more! By graduating from high school, your child can earn more than a million dollars in their lifetime. That can lead to even greater success if they attend college.

Give your child every opportunity to succeed in SISD by encouraging excellent school attendance.
