Student Dress Code & Code of Conduct
2022-2023
Socorro ISD shall comply with State and City orders and guidance for return to school, to include Social Distancing and other Public Health Interventions, set forth by the City of El Paso Department of Public Health (DPH) Local Health Authority during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.

SISD Disregard for Authority:
For student safety, students shall:
- Comply with directives given by school personnel (insubordination).
- Not leave school grounds or school-sponsored events without permission.
- Obey all rules in district vehicles.
- Accept discipline management techniques assigned by a teacher or principal.
- Consequences for failing to comply will lead to disciplinary actions
In School Dress Code

I. SHIRTS: 4 COLOR CHOICES- TEAL, BURNT ORANGE, BLACK, WHIITE
- Polo style collared shirt (either with or without the school logo)
- No designer logos on uniform shirts. Puentes club shirts can be worn with school pants daily.
- Shirts should fit comfortably, not be tight, excessively loose and be at least two inches but no more than four inches past waist.
- During cold weather, solid colored long sleeve shirts may be worn underneath.
- Jackets with a ZIPPER can be worn but MUST be completely UNZIPPED throughout the instructional day.
- Only a Puentes Bobcat Hoodie may be worn throughout the instructional day. The hood may NOT be worn at any time in the building.
II. BOTTOMS: KHAKI/BLACK
- Uniform pants, shorts, or skorts. NO SKIRTS. (The length must be longer than your fingertips when placed at the side of the leg)
- Skorts must have the front panel sewn to the shorts.
- Capri pants may be worn if they are a uniform-style capris
- All pants, shorts, and skorts must be worn at the waist/cargo allowed
- No excessively tight, low rise, or overly baggy/saggy pants, shorts
- LEGGINGS CAN BE WORN ONLY UNDER SHORTS AND THEY HAVE TO BE SOLID BLACK OR WHITE WITH NO LOGOS
IV. BUILDING P.E. UNIFORM
- Shorts cannot be excessively tight or short. (The length must be longer than your fingertips when placed at the side of your leg; basketball shorts are recommended)
- No yoga pants or leggings can be worn without shorts.
- No see-through blouses can be worn
V. BUILDING CONSEQUENCES
- If a student is found outside of the dress code, the student will be given the opportunity to call a parent to bring them a change of clothes.
- If a student is unable to change or reach a parent to bring them something, then he or she will be sent to SAC (Special Assignment Class) for the remainder of the school day.

IV. BUILDING P.E. UNIFORM

- No yoga pants or leggings can be worn without shorts.
- No see-through blouses can be worn
V. BUILDING CONSEQUENCES
- If a student is found to be outside of the dress code, the student will be given the opportunity to call a parent to bring them a change of clothes.
- If a student is unable to change or reach a parent to bring them something, then he or she will be sent to SAC (Special Assignment Class) for the remainder of the school day.
IX. OUTSIDE FOOD or DELIVERIES
- No birthday food celebrations during the instructional school day.
- No outside vendor lunch deliveries will be allowed (Ex. Fast Food/Restaurant Meal, etc.)
- Student deliveries of any type will NOT be accepted (Ex. Flowers, Balloons, Stuffed Animals, etc.)
X. USE OF TECHNOLOGY DEVICES TO INCLUDE CELL PHONES:
- Cell phones are not allowed at all during the school day. All cell phones must be turned off at 7:45 a.m. and cannot be turned on until 3:30.
- Air buds or headphones are only allowed to be used in the classroom and must be put away before they leave class, or they will be confiscated and parents will have to come pick them up. (Unless given permission for educational purposes.)
- Any cell phone out and visible during transition times or being used without permission will be confiscated and MUST BE picked up at school BY A PARENT, regardless of how or if the student is using the phone. Students may use the front office or classroom phone to reach a parent at any time.
- Phones are NOT ALLOWED during lunch.
- After the 3rd offense, it is at the discretion of the administration to not allow a scholar to bring their phone to campus.
- There is a $15.00 retrieval fee as per SISD Board Policy on the second offense and any offense thereafter. Phones will be available for pick up from 7:45 am – 8:30 am and 3:30pm – 4:00pm only.
*SSG Manuel R. Puentes Middle School WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEFT OF ELECTRONIC ITEMS SUCH CELL PHONES, MP3’S, IPOD’S, AIR PODS, EARPHONES, LAPTOPS or any other electronic devices.
*THESE ARE HIGH THEFT ITEMS, SO SCHOLARS MUST BE DILIGENT TO NOT LEAVE THEM IN AREAS THEY CAN BE TAKEN.
*Instructional time will not be spent by teachers or administration investigating the loss or recovery of these items.
*Students must pick up all confiscated items in a timely manner. At the end of each 3-week period, all items will be donated to a local charity. It is the student’s responsibility to collect any confiscated items within the week they are confiscated.
*ON STATE TESTING DAYS NO CELL PHONES or SMART WATCHES WILL BE ALLOWED
XI. Selling of Items by Scholars:
- No student is allowed to sell any item for personal gain. The only items allowed to be sold are campus or district approved fundraisers.

XII. Tardy Policy:
- If a scholar reports to school after 8:00 a.m., they are considered tardy. After 5 tardies, the scholar will have a consequence, which may include lunch detention in SAC the whole lunch period.
- If a scholar has 5 or more tardies for any one period, the educator will write a referral.
- Tardy lockouts will be conducted by campus administration when necessary to encourage scholars to be on time. If a scholar is caught in a tardy lockout, they will be given lunch detention.
Any parent having an item of concern regarding the student dress code or code of conduct will need to address the School Improvement Team Committee. The committee is made up of parents, faculty/staff, administration, and community representation. An appointment may be scheduled by contacting the school secretary and submitting your concerns in writing to be added to the agenda.

It is the philosophy of the Socorro Independent School District and SSG Manuel R. Puentes Middle School, that students should maintain high standards of dress, grooming, and appearance. SISD has established the following universal uniform options to compliment the other agreed upon school uniform options:
o Khaki pants and a white polo shirt without a school logo;
o School uniform pants and a school colored polo shirt without a school logo.
o Physical education uniform bottoms (shorts or sweatpants in any color) and a white, gray, or school colored t-shirt without a school logo.
As per Policy FNCA (Local), a universal uniform may be worn at any SISD school that has elected to implement a school uniform policy.
No representative or official of a respective school shall limit, dictate, and/or attempt to coerce from whom or where the required uniform must be purchased.
Any parent having an item of concern regarding the student dress code will need to address the School Improvement Team Committee.
