National Honor Society (NHS)
National Honor Society (NHS) was established in 1921 by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and now has chapters in all 50 states and over a million participants in NHS activities. It is a club for highly dedicated students hoping to make a contribution to their school and community and places emphasis on its four pillars: the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Our organization looks for students who balance academic performance with participation in school clubs and events as well as community service. In order to earn a graduation stole, members must accumulate 30 points, through volunteering, donations, meeting attendance, etc., for each year since they were inducted. Some of the activities our MECHS NHS chapter sponsors include winter coat drives, food pantry volunteering, and helping out in soup kitchens. In-school volunteering can be done through joining one of our many committees, such as Teacher Appreciation Committee. Members can also bring in their own ideas, and a special aspect of our NHS chapter is its tradition of senior projects, where seniors design and lead their own service project. It's going to be a great year for MECHS NHS, with lots of great service projects being planned.
Remember: pay your dues ASAP. $20 for first-year members, $10 for 2nd and 3rd-year members.
