Irma L. Barraza joined the Socorro Independent School District family in 1990 as an assistant cashier for O’Shea Keleher Elementary School. In 1991, she became the cashier at Escontrias Pre-K, and in 1993 she was promoted to be the manager/cashier at the campus. She was named Food Service Employee of the Year for the 1998-99 school year. She was the 11th recipient of the Superintendent Coin of Excellence at the Board of Trustees meeting on Feb. 9, 1999. In 2000, Irma helped establish Escontrias Pre-K as the first school to offer the Breakfast in the Classroom program. In 2003, she was promoted to the supervisory team of CNS where she has supervised up to 18 SISD school cafeterias at one time.
In 2010, Irma became a Certified Health Department Instructor through the El Paso city's Health Department for SISD schools. She has provided nutritional classes to parents at Escontrias Early Child Center, Sun Ridge Middle and Socorro High School, and also currently assists as an instructor for food service summer workshops sponsored by Region 19.
In June 2017, Ms. Barraza became a Serve/Safe Proctor to administer exams for Food Management personnel.
In February 2018, Ms. Barraza taught the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points at the Texas Association of School Business Officials annual conference.
