    The Socorro Independent School District Department of Guidance and Counseling will provide the resources for school counselors to be competent, knowledgeable and receptive to the needs of meeting academic, personal and social needs of students as they prepare to be productive citizens of the 21st century, through training, professional development and networking opportunities throughout the academic year.

    Mission Statement

    The mission of the Socorro Independent School District Department of Guidance and Counseling is to assist school counseling programs so they may provide a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program that will maximize the academic, personal-social, and career competencies of all students so that they may realize personal post-secondary goals.

  • Counselors Receive State Recognition

    Cristina Nunez

    Cristina Nunez, PDN Counselor, Texas School Counselor of Year, 2016-2017

    Cristina Nunez, Paso Del Norte School, was named the 2016-2017 Texas School Counselor of the Year, sponsored by the Lone Star State School Counselor Association.  Cristina will be honored on November 7, 2017 and will be nominated for the ASCA National School Counselor of the Year.  Congratulations Cristina!

    Congratulations to Jennifer Madrid, James P. Butler Elementary and Angie Morales, Campestre Elementary, for being named finalists for this honor.

    Crisitna Nunez, school counselor at Paso Del Norte School, was named a top 6 finalist for ASCA National School Counselor of the Year.  Cristina and Mr. Ballard traveled to Washington, DC at the end of January 2018 to receive her award.  While in DC, Cristina met with Texas Senator Ted Cruz's office, participated in a legislative panel on Social Emotional Learning in the Schools, and worked with the Reach Higher Initiative.  On January 2nd, Cristina attended a reception hosted by Michelle Obama, at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.  Cristina was then recognized at a black tie gala on the evening of January 3rd.  Congratulations to Cristina and we look forward to the upcoming advocacy for SISD, the state of Texas and the Nation!

  • 2017 Recognized ASCA Model Program Winner

    Montwood High School Counseling Program received the Recognized American School Counselor Association (RAMP) award on July 10, 2017 in Denver, Colorado.  MHS was the only Texas school to receive this award.  Congratulations to MHS for having a dynamic comprehensive data driven school counseling program for ALL MHS students!

    2017-2018 Lone Star Counseling Program Award Winners

    15 SISD Campus Counseling Programs received the Lone Star Counseling Program Award.  This honor is bestowed to counseling teams who submit a document describing data-driven comprehensive guidance programs for all students. The honor represents the dedication and commitment our counselors have for  all students in the Socorro Independent School District!
