Chief of Police
Jose Castorena, is a native to the City of El Paso, and has been a resident within the school district for 30 years. He has been employed with Socorro ISD for 26 years and served in various capacities including SISD police services for the last 10 years. The training that Mr. Castorena has completed includes K9 Handler, District Investigator, Police Sergeant and Lieutenant. Additionally, his role included serving students, staff and the community as a Truant Officer and Coordinator of Transportation. During his tenure as the Coordinator of Transportation, accomplishments included serving as Vice President on the Region 19 local Board of Pupil Transportation.
At the beginning of his career with SISD, the district was comprised of 12 schools that included only one high school. The school district has since experienced tremendous growth and student enrollment. Chief Castorena has been part of the growth and continues to serve the school district in providing a safe learning environment. Chief Castorena’s role in schools will be to provide service, guidance, and knowledge, as it relates to law enforcement officers working in the school setting. In addition, reaching out to the community to further provide information to parents and community members on the role of school based law enforcement. Chief Castorena’s primary goal is to provide an environment that is welcoming and inviting to all stakeholders that come in contact with the police officers working in the school setting. %nbsp;Chief Castorena is proud to serve as SISD’s fourth Chief of Police.
