Fernie Vasquez has worked with the Socorro Independent School District since 1999. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from the University of Texas in El Paso. Fernie was a classroom teacher for 10 years before joining the Department of State and Federal Programs. As a Title I Specialist, Fernie served under different capacities with several different programs: coordinator for the district’s parent liaisons, overseeing the Migrant Education Program, Schaeffer House Halfway Home and coordinator of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program.
One of the big initiatives Fernie started at Socorro Independent School District was the Mother-Daughter and the Father-Son district-wide conferences. The conferences have been a big success for the district with the number of participants continuing to grow annually.
As Assistant Director for State and Federal Programs, Fernie has had the opportunity to work with all school administrators in the district. Fernie understands the different needs of each and every one of the 50 campuses in the district and he works diligently to assist each campus administrator in any way he can to maximize their allocations to meet the needs of the students. He provides administrators guidance and support while also ensuring they maintain compliance with all State and Federal guidelines.

- Semi-Annual Certifications
- District Textbook Coordinator
- Father/Son Conference
- Mother/Daughter Conference
