Specialist Rafael Hernando III Middle School was originally opened in 2007 and temporarily housed Chester E. Jordan elementary School students and staff while their permanent campus was constructed. Chester Jordan Elementary was completed during the summer of 2009, opening the door for the formation of Hernando Middle School.
The middle school campus, located at 3451 Rich Beem Blvd in the heart of the district's fast growing El Dorado feeder pattern, opened on August 3, 2009 for the 2009-2010 school year. Hernando Middle School serves students from Hurshel Antwine, Chester E. Jordan, Purple Heart, and Sgt. Roberto Ituarte schools.
