The Socorro Independent School District is accepting applications for the new Dual Language Academy/Academia de Dos Idiomas until April 12.

The Dual Language Academy, which will be offered at Myrtle Cooper and Dr. Sue A. Shook elementary schools starting in the 2019-2020 school year, will allow students to become bilingual, biliterate and bicultural learners who can thrive in a global society. Instruction will follow a 50:50 model with 50 percent of the learning time in English, and 50 percent in Spanish for two sections of kindergarten and first-grade students.

“We are very excited to offer Team SISD students the opportunity to become part of the Dual Language Academy,” said Veronica Reyes, director of bilingual services. “We encourage parents to take advantage of this amazing opportunity and apply.”

SISD will select its first cohort of Dual Language Academy students April 26 at a district lottery event. Click here to download the Dual Language Academy application. Applications can be turned from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday through Friday at Myrtle Cooper Elementary, 1515 Rebecca Ann Dr, or at Dr. Sue A. Shook Elementary, 13777 Paseo del Este.
