SISD students invited to Career Awareness Showcase

Socorro Independent School District students in fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade are invited to the fifth annual Career Awareness Showcase from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 26 at Pebble Hills High School.

The Operation College Bound event helps students learn about the different high school endorsements, such as STEM, business and industry, public service, arts and humanities, and multidisciplinary studies.

During the showcase, children and their parents will network with current SISD students in the district’s early college programs, free college courses, and advanced academics academies. Participants also will hear from numerous business and industry representatives about their high-demand jobs and careers.

“This event energizes our youth to start discovering and exploring what awaits them in the near future,” said George Thomas, director of Career and Technical Education. “They also learn how their core courses contribute to the foundation of knowledge needed to be successful in each of the careers.”
