Pebble Hills High School welcomes new head baseball coach

Nicholas Alvarez

Nicholas Alvarez has been named the new head varsity baseball coach at Pebble Hills High School in the Socorro Independent School District.

Alvarez led the varsity team as the interim baseball coach in the spring. During his time as interim coach, he led the Spartans to 18 wins, and four losses, and improved the overall record by three wins.

“I can’t wait to start,” Alvarez said. “We have seven returning starters this year, and the team and I are excited to finally put our vision to work. We are going to mold what we talked about as we head into our first season in the spring, and we are looking forward to a great season!”

Before coaching at Pebble Hills, Alvarez was a varsity assistant coach at Canutillo High School. He helped lead Canutillo to back-to-back playoffs for the first time in the school’s history.

Alvarez is a graduate of Socorro High School Class of 1997. He played baseball for Coach Chris Forbes, and football for Coach Jim Carson. The stand-out athlete was drafted by the New York Yankees right after high school but committed to New Mexico State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies and a minor in business management.
