Eastlake welcomes new athletic coordinator/football coach

Eastlake HS new coach announcement

Eastlake High School named Ruben Rodriguez its new athletic coordinator and varsity football coach.

The special announcement was made in the presence of student-athletes, coaches, faculty and staff. Principal Gilbert Martinez and athletic director JJ Calderon shared a few words and congratulated the new coach on his accomplishment.

“This is something I envisioned myself doing from one day and I’m humbled because that day is today,” Rodriguez said. “Eastlake High School is home to premier athletic teams and taking over this program is a huge opportunity. I’m very excited to work alongside all our athletes and coaches. Together, I know that we will continue to bring championships back to our campus and represent Socorro ISD with pride and integrity.”

Rodriguez has 20 years of experience in athletics. He was previously an assistant football coach and the offensive coordinator for the Falcon team. He helped lead the team to three district championships (5A) and five bi-district championships (5A). The new athletic coordinator also served as an assistant baseball coach, and was instrumental in the baseball team’s success with seven district championships (5A) and seven bi-district championships.

Rodriguez was recognized as a State of Texas High School Assistant Football Coach of the Week in 2018. He holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with a specialization in special education from the University of Texas at El Paso and a master’s degree in educational administration from Grand Canyon University.
