5th Annual Academic Technology Showcase features outstanding student work using digital, online tools
Hundreds of students and educators participated in the fifth annual Academic Technology Showcase, an innovative virtual exhibition of the outstanding teaching and learning that takes place daily in SISD with technology and digital resources.
The annual event involves students at all grade levels, coincides with National Digital Learning Day and is organized by the district’s Instructional Technology team.
For the showcase on Feb. 22, students participated in unique challenges to showcase their technology skills along with their creativity, critical thinking, communication skills and ability to collaborate with others.
SISD Instructional Technology coordinator Miguel Moreno said this was a special year for the showcase because of the transition from virtual learning to in-person.
“Socorro ISD has a rich history of incorporating technology into our instruction,” Moreno said. “Our district’s technology efforts were definitely highlighted during virtual learning, and coming back, it is stronger than ever, and we are very proud of that.”
Students competed in the FlipVid, Team Video, App and Bulb Digital Portfolio Challenges. WIN Academy students participated in the Sphero or Ozobot Challenges. Judging and other interactive activities also took place at the showcase.
Omar Ibrahim, a junior at Pebble Hills high School, who participated in the App challenge, said technology is and will always be part of our everyday lives.
“I think it’s a really great idea that the district engages students with technology,” Ibrahim said. “It’s great because it gets us out of our regular instruction, and it definitely gets more out of us.”
The Academic Technology Showcase is part of SISD’s commitment to focusing on advancing digital teaching and learning, training educators to utilize new instructional resources, and offering more technological devices for student use.
The showcase serves as SISD’s way of sharing the many great practices occurring districtwide utilizing technology to support authentic, innovative instruction.
