More than 160 elementary students participated in the fifth annual districtwide Math Bee March 26 at Eastlake High School.
The annual competition is another opportunity for SISD students to excel in academics and have fun in a competition that showcases their outstanding math skills.
Similar to a spelling bee, kindergarten to fifth-grade students competed by showcasing their math skills, and the contest continued until one winner from each grade level was left standing.
Winners were recognized after their grade-level competition was complete. The competition was live streamed in the Falcon cafeteria for parents and guests to watch.
“It’s an awesome feeling to see so many students compete academically,” said SISD instructional officer Fabiola Jordan. “These competitions not only make the students want to succeed more but help give them that competitive edge.”
Students who participated in Math Bee were excited to compete in the annual contest.
“I had so much fun because I love math,” said Brandon Murdock, a first-grade student at Dr. Sue A. Shook Elementary School who won first-place. “Math is my favorite subject in school.”
The math enthusiasts took their knowledge and skills to the next level at the competition.
“I feel really good knowing I placed,” said Daniela Valdez, a second-grade student at Horizon Heights Elementary School who earned second place. “I like math, I enjoy it in school, and I want to keep learning.”
