SISD honors Partners in Education with special awards celebration

Partners in Education being honored at event

The Socorro Independent School District honored its business partners that work alongside SISD schools at the 2022 SISD Partners in Education recognition April 29 at the Monte Carlo ballroom.

SISD has more than 200 partners in education who help students explore career paths, set goals, and donate time, money, and services to schools across the district.

“Our Partners in Education Program found innovative ways to be involved with our business community who wanted to rally behind our students and teachers as they transitioned back into the classrooms,” said Maya Kirtley, SISD Public Relations Specialist. “It was the outpouring of support by our business community that proved to be a light at the end of the tunnel for Team SISD.”

Select SISD partners in education won the Business Partner of the Year, School Partnership of the Year, Education Empowerment, and Business awards.

“It is always nice to be nominated, and to find out that you won is phenomenal,” said David Ellington, Major of the First Armored Division Sustainment Troops Battalion, who won the Business Partner of the Year Award. “To know that our unit has made a difference for others is very rewarding, not expected, but always appreciated.”

Leading the program at the school level are SISD partner in education liaisons who also serve their campus as assistant principals, counselors, parent liaisons, and communities in school coordinators.

“All I can say is I love my job, and this is what I chose to do so many years ago,” said Susana Zamora, Communities in Schools coordinator at Helen Ball Elementary School, who won the School Partner of the Year Award. “I am blessed to have been chosen for this award today.”
