Socorro baseball player celebrates signing with family, friends

Socorro varsity baseball player Armando Salas celebrated with classmates, his coach and parents at a signing ceremony in January at the Socorro High School library. Salas signed a letter of intent to play baseball and attend school at the New Mexico Military Institute. Salas started as a catcher his sophomore year and he is the current defensive captain of the team. He was unable to compete for half of his junior year due to an injury, but upon his return to the lineup he helped guide the team’s defense and assisted them in making it to the playoffs. Salas had a 1.000 fielding percentage. This season, the Socorro High School baseball team will count on Salas more on the offensive side of the game and will continue to rely on his defensive prowess.
