Military coalition for SISD seeks to fill liaison position

The Socorro Independent School District recognizes the challenges military families face as they transition from city to city and must readjust in new communities. In order to ensure all students with ties to the military are successful in the district, SISD partners with the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) which employs a Military Student Transition Consultant (MSTC).
The MSTC works with SISD families to maximize the academic, artistic, athletic and social skills of military students. He or she also is here to assist families with questions and issues as they arise in transition, deployment and relocation. The MSTC plays a pivotal role in establishing collaboration among school systems / local education agencies, public and private youth services, community groups and installation-based resources.
The MSTC is teamed up with SISD school counselors to ensure military students and their parents are aware of registration needs, school boundaries, accountability measures and academic, athletic and co-curricular programs offered in SISD. Fort Bliss school liaison officers and the MSTC also collaborate to support military families.
The MCEC is eager to fill the position to continue serving SISD military families. Applications will be accepted until Feb. 19 and the desired start date is March 2013.
