Hundreds of dancers, cheerleaders compete in Americas Cup 2013

More than 100 groups participated in the citywide Americas Cup 2013 dance and cheerleading competitions on Feb. 16 and 17 at Americas High School. The event is sponsored by the Americas High School Band and Color Guard Boosters with NCA/NDA/Varsity.

The annual competition had more than 40 solo performers and yielded record-breaking attendance again this year. The top sweepstakes awards went to the Socorro High School Missionettes in the Dance Competition and the Montwood High School Varsity Cheerleaders in the Cheer Competition. 

The Socorro High School Missionettes earned first place in Team Pom, Team Kick, Team Open Category, and Officer Hip Hop. They also won the Americas Cup Best Dancer Award and the Judges Choice Award - Americas Cup NCA/NDA/Varsity High School Division for Dance.

Montwood High School Cheer earned first place in Freshmen/Junior Varsity Build and Varsity CoEd Build.  They also won the Judges Choice Award – Americas Cup NCA/NDA/Varsity High School Division for Cheer.

Other notable SISD winners were the Montwood High School Emerald Dancers who earned second place in Varsity Jazz and third place in Varsity Hip Hop, El Dorado High School 9th Grade Academy earned first place in Officer Open and third place Officer Hip Hop.
