STAAR/EOC 15 percent grading policy deferred
The Socorro Independent School District will defer the 15 percent grading policy on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness End-of-Course (STAAR/EOC) examinations for the 2012-2013 school year. The SISD Board of Trustees approved the decision, which was based on Texas Commissioner of Education Michael L. Williams announcement that he is deferring implementation of the 15 percent grading requirement for this school year.
Under the 15-percent grading policy, a student’s score on the STAAR/EOC exams would count 15 percent of the student’s final grade in each tested subject area. Local school districts have the option to move forward in utilizing the 15 percent rule or deferring the grading requirement. This is the second year the rule has been deferred in SISD and in more than 1,100 of the state’s school districts.
