Two Montwood High School students Bethany Wilburn and Daisy Jordan were honored by El Paso Congressman Beto O’Rourke for being Presidential Essay Award winners.
Wilburn and Jordan won third and fourth place, respectively, and both received a $50 cash prize for their award-winning essays. More than 80 entries were submitted to the contest; many of them were from students in Montwood High School’s Synergy Program. The essay topics were centered on policies presented in President Obama's 2009 and 2012 inauguration speeches and the impact of these policies on the lives of the students.
The essay competition was sponsored by Andele Tutors, a non-profit organization that works with community leaders and organizations to provide underserved families with tutoring for their children and resources to empower families to take responsibility for enhancing their quality of life.
