The Socorro Independent School District is expanding learning opportunities for students with the launch of the new Socorro ISD Virtual Academy, a pilot program designed to provide high-quality instruction, flexibility and personalized support through a structured virtual learning environment.
The Socorro ISD Virtual Academy will offer a full-time virtual learning option for Texas public school students in grades 9–12. Students are enrolled in Socorro ISD while completing coursework online and earning credits toward a Socorro ISD diploma.
The new academy is designed to give students another way to learn while maintaining the academic expectations, educator support and college and career focus of Socorro ISD.
“Every student has different needs, goals and circumstances, and we want to continue creating opportunities that help our students succeed,” Superintendent James Vasquez said. “The Socorro ISD Virtual Academy gives students another high-quality learning option while keeping them connected to Team SISD and supported by our educators.”
Students will access digital curriculum through Edgenuity, while Schoology will serve as the academy’s learning management system for communication, assignments, announcements, grading and collaboration.
The virtual learning model may include online coursework, digital assignments, projects and independent learning, along with personalized support from Socorro ISD educators.
Students participating in the Virtual Academy will be expected to maintain regular attendance and engagement, participate in coursework, complete assignments, communicate with teachers and take personal responsibility for their academic progress.
Up to 50 students are expected to be accepted into the initial pilot cohort. Applications will be reviewed in the order received based on student qualifications and program requirements. Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance.
